SPOILER ALERT: You can find Jesus in the Bible!

I know that sounds obvious, maybe even a little silly, but hear me out.

So many people today are looking everywhere for a word from God, while the very Word of God, Jesus Christ, is waiting for them in the pages of Scripture.

If you want to know Jesus, open your Bible.

Why Reading My Bible Is the Most Important Part of My Day

Reading my Bible is the most important part of my day.

When I don't spend time with Jesus first thing in the morning, I have a tendency to drift. I drift back toward my old self.

Apart from Jesus, I am fearful, proud, and ignorant.

I know this because I remember my life before Christ, and I reflect on it often. My decisions were driven by fear, fear of harm, fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of poverty. Fear was my compass.

At the same time, I was proud. I believed my perspective was the right one, and I trusted my own understanding more than I trusted God. I collected degrees, certifications, and knowledge on all kinds of topics, hoping they would improve my chances of surviving and succeeding in life. Education is valuable, but I often placed my confidence in what I knew instead of what God had already said.

And then there was my ignorance.

People say, "Ignorance is bliss," but I don't believe that's true. Ignorance is often at the root of our greatest struggles.

A Simple Example

For years, I struggled with chronic stomach pain.

I had no idea that my morning coffee was one if the causes.

One day, my doctor asked about my eating habits and explained that drinking coffee on an empty stomach was likely the problem because of its acidity.

At that moment, I had a choice.

I could believe her, or I could ignore what she told me.

Once I understood the cause and believed what she said, I was free, not because the coffee magically changed, but because I now knew the truth. I could choose to eat breakfast before drinking coffee and avoid the pain, or I could disregard the information and continue suffering.

Do you see the connection?

Understanding truth creates the opportunity for freedom.

The same is true spiritually.

When we read God's Word with a heart that wants to understand and obey, we discover that many of the struggles we assume are inevitable are actually things God has already given us wisdom, peace, and freedom to overcome.

Jesus Has the Words of Life

Reading God's Word every day—especially at the beginning of my day—isn't just another spiritual discipline. It's essential to my life.

In John 6, Jesus is speaking to a large group of disciples early in His ministry. His teaching became difficult for many people to accept, and many chose to walk away.

Then we read this beautiful exchange:

"At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, 'Are you also going to leave?' Simon Peter replied, 'Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.'"—John 6:66–69 (NLT)

Peter knew Jesus.

He had eaten with Him, walked with Him, listened to Him teach, watched Him heal the sick, cast out demons, and perform countless miracles. But Peter also spent time with Jesus away from the crowds.

That part matters.

We Need Jesus Every Day

Gathering with other believers on Sunday is important. Scripture tells us not to neglect meeting together (Hebrews 10:25). Church is where we receive encouragement, prayer, accountability, correction, and support.

But church alone isn't enough.

We need Jesus every single day.

We need to know Him personally, not just know about Him.

That relationship grows as we spend time with Him in His Word.

The Invitation

I know many of us are simply trying to make it through today. The phrase "the words of eternal life" can sound overwhelming when you're just trying to survive this week.

But here's what I've discovered:

Whether it's one day or all eternity, I don't want to live a single moment apart from the love, grace, mercy, and wisdom of Jesus Christ.

The depth of your faith, and the impact it has on your everyday life, is directly connected to how well you know Him.

If you desire a life marked by love, peace, wisdom, and the power of the Holy Spirit, read your Bible.

It is there that you will find Jesus.

It is there that you will find truth.

It is there that your questions begin to find answers.

It is there that your soul is nourished.

And it is there that God's light shines into the darkest places of your life.

Be encouraged, friend. Open your Bible today. Jesus is waiting for you there.
